Getting to this a bit late, but I had to post a little something about our 4th of July gig in Frazier. Frazier is a little town about 2 miles up the road from the Winter Park ski resort. You can clear the town end-to-end in about three minutes--it's small. :) But that doesn't stop them from putting on a big-time 4th of July party!
The band was invited up a day early and given two condos to lounge in for a couple of days. Hot tubs were within walking distance, and the weather was very cooperative while we were there.
Tuesday early afternoon we got to the setup location, and discovered that, yes, circus performers would indeed be performing before us. Don't you hate following a better act than you??
It didn't matter, though, we were ready to rock, and took the stage around 6pm, playing for about 1000 fans until just before the 9:30 fireworks show began. After all that work, it was nice to lounge in the grass and watch the multi-colored lights lacing through the night sky, and to the sound of Star Wars music no less. I had never seen a fireworks display with musical accompaniment--and i wasn't sure how to react. Finally I decided we should get sparklers for our next show...
