BIOS :

Darby Carroll - Lead Vocals - general noise maker

Testing 1-2-3....Testing 1-2... Is this thing on? It's hard for me to do the official, Hi my name is Darby Ellison and I was born in blah blah blah, thing. I will say that I am a Pisces, a native and I LOVE Colorado!

I sang my way out of the womb, through high school (Columbine, to be specific..) a brief stint with the Metropolitan State Choir and the Art Institute. My background is in choir and ensemble groups, my first professional gig was singing for Olinger Mortuary at funerals and wakes and such…Eventually, I was lucky enough to land a gig with the band Turnsol in the mid nineties as a backing vocalist. Soon thereafter, I decided to let Michelle and The Book of Runes school me for four years, one of the best experiences of my life. We traveled, ROCKED and oh yeah, partied more than any living creatures should.. What a ride! Eventually, I met a guy who new a gal who was married to this keyboardist whose band was looking for a gal....

Members of Underlining Einstein have been together upwards of eight years (my drummer John and I) and we've been blessed to work with some amazing musicians in that time. Craig joined us in 2003 and we rounded out our tribe with Lorne Powell over a year ago, he and his family definitely complete ours. I've never felt more like a band with any other, these three men are some of the best musicians and friends that I've had the honor of rocking with. We are definitely a family, with our share of calling each other out and wanting to kill each other at times, but our chemistry is clear on stage, we LOVE entertaining our pals, ROCKING OUT, having fun and playing music together!

John Barry - Drums

John is a transplanted New Yorker who has been drumming since he was 13 years old. He has done recording work for artists as diverse as Elton John, Little Richard, Bon Jovi, and Cher. He once touched Paul McCartney's trouser leg before security beat him senseless.

He was the first man in space and has actually discovered a cure for cancer. He was voted People Magazine's sexiest man of the year in 1989, '92, and again in '97. John lives in Conifer, CO

Craig Kishel - Lead Guitar

Craig grew up in PA and started singing in the church choir at the early age of 6.  His father started teaching him the guitar around the same time and he started playing seriously in the fifth grade.  Influenced by KISS, HENDRIX, CLAPTON, Craig started to love rock at an early age. He played in a few band's in high school and quit playing for 3 yrs while in college.  His final year of college he fronted an acoustic duo named KISHFUL THINKING.  Craig again quit playing after college until John and Darby asked him to join their band in 2002.  Since then has been with UNDERLINING EINSTEIN playing guitar and backing Darby on vocals. He loves playing with his band mates and says they are all good musicians but even better at "staying friends"!  Craig enjoys trying to find songs that he thinks will "work" for the band.  "our ability to play a lot of different styles of music is what people love about underlining einstein".

Lorn Powell - Bass Guitar

Born in the Great White North, Lorne Powell is best defined the word: Hoser! Growing up in the greater Detroit area, Lorne was no stranger to rock & roll. Although he is the baby of the Underlining Einstein family (at 29 yrs), his musical backbone lies in the classic rock of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Lorne’s first major gig was playing Bass with “Sista Otis and the Wholly Rollers” at St. Andrews Hall in downtown Detroit. He spent nearly 2 years with Sista Otis hosting a weekly open mic night at the Rainbow Room in Detroit, until an unforeseen tragedy destroyed the trio. During the height of the ‘Alternative’ music revolution, Lorne was involved with a 6 piece band called “Psychaetropia”. The psycha’s music was an all original hybrid featuring 5 singer song-writers collaborating to make multi-genre musical masterpieces.  Psychaetropia’s grand finale was a packed house at Ann Arbor’s famous music bar, The Blind Pig. Lorne’s next project involved Psychaetropia’s Lisa Hurt and her husband Russ. The trio created hard hitting tracks based on Lisa’s music; heavy metal piano, think of Tori Amos playing with Korn.

Relocating to Boulder, CO in 2005 to begin a franchise trucking company, Lorne’s music was put on hold. After nearly 2 years without playing, he joined Underlining Einstein and slowly began to re-establish his chops. Today, Lorne is playing a healthy mix of bass styles while offering his audio engineering skills as the band’s sound tech. Look around the room at an Underlining Einstein show and you might see Lorne’s wife Meghan holding their first son Drake who has been attending shows since his birth in January of 2009. Single greatest musical influence: Jimi Hendrix.
